Amy Adams Is A Woman Turning Into A Dog For Annapurna's Dark Comedy 'Nightbitch'

It’s been a long time coming, but maybe this time, six-time Academy Award-nominated actress Amy Adams finally has a good chance at winning an Oscar. The catch? It won’t be for a prestige drama, the fantastic sci-fi “Arrival” or even the charming “Enchanted,” but for Annapurna Pictures‘s “Nightbitch,” a movie about a woman who thinks she’s turning into a dog.

Yes, you heard that right. According to Deadline, Adams will produce and star in the adaptation of Rachel Yoder‘s upcoming novel “Nightbitch,” to be written by Yoder herself. Yoder’s website describes the book as “a darkly comic novel about motherhood, rage, and the female self.” It follows a stay-at-home housewife and mother who begins to suspect she is literally turning into a dog. “The mother is forced to contend with the very real physical manifestations of her solitary anxiety, with only her two-year-old son for company.”

And it just gets better from there. “Finally jolted to action after an impulsive and disastrous encounter with the family cat, she seeks a cure for her condition in an herbal multi-level marketing scheme, a group of mommies all inexplicably named Jen, and Wanda White, a mysterious academic specializing in ‘mythical ethnography.'”

Weirdly enough, this isn’t the first time that premise has been turned into a film. As filmmaker April Wolfe pointed out on Twitter, “Nightbitch” shares most of its logline with the 2017 dark comedy similarly titled “Bitch.” That film, by Marianna Palka premiered at Sundance and dealt with a stay-at-home mom who decides to take on the persona of a dog, leaving her philandering husband to try and keep the family together.

As Deadline reports, the “Nightbitch” book won’t be out until summer 2021 so expect the movie to come at some point after that. But we’ll be more than ready, hoping this will be a very good movie so we can give it all the treats – I mean, awards.
