As we get closer to the Academy Awards on February 22nd, more and more fans, sites, and industry affiliates are paying homage to the films nominated for Oscars this year (case in point—a montage we featured just a week ago today).
Today Canada-based Cineplex Movies has contributed its tribute, a surprisingly effective, well-edited supercut of this year’s nominees that clocks in under three minutes. All the usual suspects are there, frontrunners and multi-nominees like “Boyhood,” “Birdman,” “Whiplash,” and “The Grand Budapest Hotel.”
But the short particularly excels in including many other contenders, such as “Ida,” Poland’s submission to the Best Foreign Language Film category directed by Pawel Pawlikowski. “Big Hero 6,” “The Tale of the Princess Kaguya” and “The Boxtrolls” are all recognizable Best Animated Feature nominees. You can easily spot Reese Witherspoon (“Wild”) and Julianne Moore (“Still Alice”), both up for Best Actress in a Leading Role.
Perhaps this clip’s best quality is that it makes us want to see the films therein that we haven’t gotten around to yet. What films, you might ask, did Cineplex exclude in its tribute? Well, none. The video claims inclusion of every nominated film. Watch below and see which you recognize, and which films you still have to see.
