Right now, Kumail Nanjiani and Andy Muschietti are knee-deep in the world of superheroes with “Eternals” and “The Flash,” respectively. However, they are also about to bring in their partners and work together on a new film “The Doubtful Guest.”
According to THR, director Andy Muschietti and his producing partner, Barbara Muschietti, are set to team up with Kumail Nanjiani and his wife/writing partner, Emily V. Gordon, for an adaptation of Edward Gorey’s “The Doubtful Guest.” The film will star Nanjiani and tell the story of a penguin-like creature that arrives at a family’s home and causes all sorts of chaos. The original story is only 14-pages in length, so clearly Nanjiani and Gordon have to do some work on the plot to fill out a feature’s run-time.
As mentioned, Andy and Barbara Muschietti are currently working on “The Flash,” which is just now beginning production. That film is the long-awaited superhero film starring Ezra Miller. Previously, they worked on the two “It” films, which became box office hits. Nanjiani and Miller are probably best known for their Oscar-nominated work on the comedy film, “The Big Sick.” Since then, they worked on “Little America” for Apple TV+. In addition to the above-mentioned “Eternals” work, Nanjiani is gearing up to begin production on another massive project, the much-anticipated “Star Wars” spinoff series, “Obi-Wan Kenobi.”
Obviously, with these projects taking up a lot of the time for Muschietti and Nanjiani, it’s unclear when their schedules might free up so that they can tackle “The Doubtful Guest.” However, the combination of these two couples instantly makes the feature a project to keep your eye on.
