Whenever actress Marion Cotillard has a new film at Cannes, we take notice. And this year, the acclaimed French actress is teaming up with filmmaker Vanessa Filho, who is making her directorial debut, on the film “Guele d’ange (Angel Face).” Premiering at the upcoming festival in the Un Certain Regard section, the film looks like it could be one of the standouts of Cannes.
“Angel Face” follows a woman, played by Cotillard, who abandons her 8-year-old child after meeting someone at a nightclub. In the first trailer for the film, you can see just how the child reacts and what led to the mother leaving. Watching the footage, it brings to mind “The Florida Project,” with how the young girl seems to be the focus of what is definitely going to be a pretty heartbreaking story.
Cotillard is clearly one of the best actresses working today, having collected numerous awards over her career, including an Academy Award for Best Actress in the film “La Vie en Rose.” And judging by the trailer, her role in “Angel Face” looks to be another strong entry in her IMDB.
The Cannes Film Festival starts May 8.
Here’s the official synopsis and poster for the film:
