It was three years ago when Angelina Jolie arrived with her writing and directing feature debut with the ambitious Bosnian War drama/love story “In The Land Of Blood And Honey.” It wasn’t quite so well received, but she got the bug, and this winter she’ll be in the Oscar mix as the helmer of the WWII drama “Unbroken.” That film has a script from more experienced hands Richard LaGravanese and the Coen Brothers, but Jolie hasn’t given up on writing her own material. In fact, she has something that could see her reteam with Brad Pitt for their first onscreen project since “Mr. And Mrs. Smith” nearly ten years ago.
There aren’t many details, but Jolie and Pitt are coming together to star in a movie she wrote, though it’s unclear if she’ll also direct. It’s also not certain what exactly the project is, though THR speculates it might be a relationship drama Jolie penned about a couple who take a vacation together as a last chance to save their marriage. And, it should be noted, ‘Blood And Honey’ cinematographer Dean Semler told Movie Mavericks back in 2011, “Angelina Jolie has written another script that she wants me to photograph, but nothing definite yet.” So it would seem that, at the very least, Jolie is sitting on at least one other script, maybe more?
So, Pitt and Jolie are reteaming on… something… Perhaps this will be one of their 2015 gigs? Guess we’ll see, but if this is coming together, perhaps it’ll be in the Cannes marketplace later this month.
