Well, here’s an interesting little twist. After news circulated around the web yesterday that Angelina Jolie would be starring in a Bosnian war-set drama, production company GK Films quietly blogged some interesting details most of us missed: the film will be mark the feature directorial by Jolie, who is also writing the project, but she won’t be starring in it.
The project is officially described as “a love story set during the Bosnian war, the film focuses on a Serbian man and a Bosnian woman who meet on the eve of the war and the effect the war has on their relationship.” As if all this wasn’t ambitious enough, Jolie is forgoing name actors and utilizing a cast “solely compromised [sic] of various ethnicities from the region of the former Yugoslavia.”
Pretty amazing stuff. We’re always glad to see people break out of their comfort zone, and really, we’re pleasantly surprised to see Jolie challenging herself by both writing and directing a film, using unknown actors, and being shot on location halfway around the world. No word on when production will begin but a safe bet would be this fall, probably once Brad Pitt finishes up his duties on “Moneyball” (the two stars try not to overlap projects so that one parent is always around for their army of children).
