Angelina Jolie's Directorial Debut Now Titled 'In The Land Of Blood and Honey'

FilmDistrict To Release Bosnian-Set War/Romance Picture On December 23rd


Academy Award-winning Actress, U.N.-approved humanitarian, prodigious international baby adopter, geographical coordinate tattoo enthusiast, partner to one of the sexiest men on the planet and now director. Is there anything Angelina Jolie can’t do?

For months, we’ve been hearing about Jolie’s directorial debut; a once-untitled romantic drama, set during the Bosnian War following a love story between a Muslim woman and a Serbian man. Now the picture has a title and U.S. distributor. The relatively new distributor FilmDistrict (co-run by producer Graham King) has aggressively been acquiring pictures during the Cannes Film Festival (they just scored Rian Johnson‘s “Looper“) and have scooped up the U.S. rights to what is now called, “In The Land Of Blood and Honey” The picture is scheduled for release during Oscar season on December 23. Quite the bold move.


“The film is specific to the Bosnian War, but it’s also universal,” Jolie said in a statement picked up by THR. “I wanted to tell a story of how human relationships and behavior are deeply affected by living inside a war.”

As previously reported, the picture stars Zana Marjanovic (”Snow”), Goran Kostic and Rade Serbedzija (“Snatch”), and if you believe pictures contains a cameo by Brad Pitt (our guess is it was just set visit to see how his partner was doing).

“The former Yugoslavia has a rich history of dramatic arts. The cast was extraordinary. I was privileged and honored to work with them and I am very excited for everyone to see their immense talent,” Jolie said.

FilmDistrict is on a roll and really flexing their new muscles at the Croisette having also already acquired U.S. rights to the comedy “Playing The Field” starring Gerard Butler, Uma Thurman, Judy Greer and Catherine Zeta-Jones, as directed by Gabriele Muccino (“The Pursuit of Happyness”) and “Arabian Nights” starring Liam Hemsworth and Anthony Hopkins.
