'Angry Birds Movie 2' Trailer: An Incredible Comedic Cast Comes Together For This Animated Sequel

Look, the first ‘Angry Birds Movie’ isn’t good, full stop. Sure, it made a ton of money at the box office and there’s no way that Sony was going to forget about that. So, here we are, a few years after the first film (and even longer past the time when the smartphone game that inspired the film was relevant) with the first trailer for the sequel. And sadly, it looks like the sequel isn’t going to sway your opinion on the franchise.

The basic plot of “The Angry Birds Movie 2” revolves around the two groups of enemies from the first film (the birds and the pigs) teaming up to fight a bigger, scarier common foe. No, the plot is far from complex, but this is a kids film, so what do you expect?

Perhaps, the biggest tragedy about this film is the fact that Sony has put together a really great comedic cast to bring these animated characters to life. Jason Sudeikis, Josh Gad, Leslie Jones, Bill Hader, Rachel Bloom, Awkwafina, Sterling K. Brown, Danny McBride, Peter Dinklage, Zach Woods, Pete Davidson, Lil Rel Howery, and Beck Bennett all show up in this sequel. That’s a seriously funny cast. Almost makes you wonder what could happen if you just put all these folks in a room together and had them come up with an animated film. We’re thinking it would be better than ‘Angry Birds.’

“The Angry Birds Movie 2” hits theaters on August 19.

Here’s the synopsis;

The flightless angry birds and the scheming green piggies take their beef to the next level in The Angry Birds Movie 2! When a new threat emerges that puts both Bird and Pig Island in danger, Red (Jason Sudeikis), Chuck (Josh Gad), Bomb (Danny McBride), and Mighty Eagle (Peter Dinklage) recruit Chuck’s sister Silver (Rachel Bloom) and team up with pigs Leonard (Bill Hader), his assistant Courtney (Awkwafina), and techpig Garry (Sterling K. Brown) to forge an unsteady truce and form an unlikely superteam to save their homes.
