The stars keep coming out to sing for Rob Marshall. The director, who is currently brewing up the big screen version of Stephen Sondheim‘s fairy tale riff “Into The Woods,” already has heavyweights Johnny Depp and Meryl Streep on board, along with James Corden, Jake Gyllenhaal, Chris Pine and Emily Blunt. And now another actress who recently showed off her pipes is getting a shot.
THR reports that Anna Kendrick, who recently powered “Pitch Perfect” into an unexpected hit both at the box office and in music stores with its best-selling soundtrack has joined, is taking on the role of Cinderella. The character is one of a handful of bedtime favorites — Jack, Rapunzel, and Little Red Riding Hood — who encounter The Baker and The Baker’s Wife as they journey to find a way to lift a witch’s curse that has left them unable to have children…with song! We kid — this thing was a massive success on the stage, and given the talent its drawing, unless it turns out be another “Nine,” it should be the same in theaters.
Also coming on is Gavroche from “Les Miserables,” aka Daniel Huttlestone, according to Deadline, and he’ll be playing Jack.
Production begins this summer, and the movie is likely due in theaters in 2014.
