So is Joe Swanberg selling out, or is Anna Kendrick slumming it? Perhaps it's somewhere in the middle for both these talents, but if you told us before today that these two would be working together on a movie, we would've laughed.
Mumblecore maven, lo-fi guru and indie stalwart Swanberg has gone Hollywood (to a degree) casting Kendrick in his next film "Drinking Buddies." What do we know about it? Well, Andrea Roa, Anish Savajani and Alica van Couvering are producing… and that's about it. Huh. We would be remiss if we didn't mention that Swanberg has already flirted with more mainstream fare, sorta, directing a segment of the upcoming horror anthology "V/H/S." But for the most part, his films have utilized a crew of regular collaborators, an improv technique and gritty aesthetics that have won him as many champions as destractors. Will this one have a bit more polish? Guess we'll see.
Production on the film begins this month in Chicago and considering how fast Swanberg tends to crank his movies out, a Sundance Film Festival premiere isn't entirely out of the question. [Deadline]
