There hasn’t been this much talk about Chris Pine since…well yesterday, when chatter flew around the internet centering on the actor’s Boston accent in the trailer for "The Finest Hours." But we’re here to talk about his potential involvement in the DC movie universe. First, it was reported that he was going to play Steve Trevor, the romantic interest for the titular superhero in "Wonder Woman." Then further chatter suggested that it was all a subterfuge, and that the actor was really going to play Hal Jordan in "Justice League." Now comes yet another twist.
Birth Movies Death is hearing that Pine was actually offered both "Wonder Woman" and "Justice League," but thus far, has signed up for neither. If true, that’s certainly an odd development. Does Warner Bros. want Pine so badly they are giving him a few different options? Or, as BMD suggets, are two movies in the same universe, trying to snare the same actor for their project? And adding a further layer of intrigue is that WB wants the actor as part of their presentation at San Diego Comic Con this weekend.

Perhaps for Pine, it will come down to the finished script. When Michelle MacLaren exited "Wonder Woman" this spring, there was still no finished script, and part of the reason she left was over creative differences with the studio. And while Patty Jenkins quickly stepped in, one wonders where the screenplay is at, particularly with WB using their competing screenwriters method to put that project together. Meanwhile, in the print edition of EW (via Cosmic Book News) they reveal that Chris Terrio ("Argo," "Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice") has finished the "Justice League" script. If I were Pine and considering two projects, and one has had recent director shakeups, while the other is already good to go with with script, I know where I would sign, and apparently, that’s the one he’s "leaning" toward.
The new few days will be pretty interesting. Will WB lock Pine down? What other surprises are coming? Keep your eyes on San Diego.
