There was time when the idea of writing up a story about Anthony Hopkins being caught between two sequels would've seemed laughable. But welcome to 2012, where if you want keep the lights on and maintain some profile in Hollywood, you whore your soul to Marvel or sign up for a big franchise.
Anthony Hopkins seems to be between both worlds as Deadline reports the acclaimed actor is wanted by Summit to play the bad guy in their old timers action vehicle sequel "Red 2." But who doth call from yonder? It's "Thor 2"! With that film gearing up to shoot this fall for a release next year, scheduling may cause a rift in the cinematic universe that cannot be repaired. What ever can Summit and Marvel do? This has got to be the biggest showdown since Lionsgate and Fox pretended to stare each other down over Jennifer Lawrence for "Catching Fire" and "X-Men: Second Class" (or whatever it will be called) only to work everything out for the benefit of the star. Granted, "Red 2" will probably survive if Hopkins can't make it, but we presume personal assistants and whatnot will all be working their cellphones hard to make sure Tony H. can be in both.
Anyway, should this all work out, Hopkins will be running the geek gauntlet next year pimping "Red 2" when it opens on August 2, 2013 and "Thor 2" when it arrives later in the year on November 15, 2013.
