“I don’t think Marvel‘s ever done anything like this,” Chris Evans recently told Empire about “Captain America: The Winter Soldier.” “The [directors, the Russo] brothers said right from the start that we were really doing a ’70s thriller,” the action star said of what sounds like an unlikely Marvel movie.
What else is in store for Steve Rodgers in ‘Cap 2’? Well, the idea, teased in “The Avengers” a little (and the end of the first Captain America film), is that this is a man out of time—literally.
“We really haven’t explored his adjustment period,” he said of Rodgers once living in the 1940s, only to be discovered decades later in 2012. ‘The Avengers’ we had so many characters you have to address, you don’t really have time to sit with any single one. In this movie there’s a lot going on for Steve.”
“He’s trying to acclimatize to the modern world,” he continued. “I don’t want to give too much away, but it’s about trying to find how he fits. He’s a man from the 1940s. He’s just woken up. For everybody else, it’s been a slow burn to get to where we are in 2014. But for him, suddenly there’s the Internet, cell phones and The Patriot Act. The technology’s new to him and so is the access the government has to that technology.”
Well, that’s a pretty good tease for ‘The Winter Soldier,’ and frankly it sounds more interesting than recent Marvel fare (especially “Thor: The Dark World”). Meanwhile the L.A. Times has revealed a bunch of new photos from the film and one of the more interesting ones centers on Sam Wilson/Falcon played by Anthony Mackie. He’s a world away from the colorful red-and-white comic creation with wings and way more stripped down like Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow, but frankly that makes more sense in this grounded universe. “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” is set for release on April 4th in the U.S. and arrives early March 28th in the U.K. Check out the pics below.
