With “The Equalizer” coming this fall (check out the first trailer), and the boxing pic “Southpaw” starring Jake Gyllenhaal brewing, it looks like director Antoine Fuqua is putting another project on his plate.
Deadline reports that Fuqua will take the helm of “Narco Sub,” a movie formerly attached to the late Tony Scott, and one that once had Doug Liman taking a look at it. With a script from David Guggenheim (“Safe House“), with revisions by Simon Kinberg (“X-Men: Days Of Future Past“) and Anthony Peckham (“Sherlock Holmes“) the story will center around the submersible vehicles South American drug cartels use to smuggle cocaine into the United States.
No word yet on if/when this might roll, and Fuqua is apparently also considering “The Magnificent Seven” remake at MGM (yep, it’s still happening) so here’s hoping “Narco Sub” is compelling enough to keep him away from that bad idea. And also catching Fuqua’s eye? A potential sequel to “The Equalizer,” according to THR.
