So remember that brief moment when it seemed like Anton Corbijn was going to walk away from making movies after his upcoming thriller “A Most Wanted Man?” Yeah, scratch that. While we wait for that picture, starring Philip Seymour Hoffman and Rachel McAdams, to drop, Corbijn is already moving on to this next venture and it’s a return to the biopic format of his directorial debut “Control.”
The Wrap reveals that Corbijn will helm the title-that-will-hopefully-be-changed “Life.” Penned by Luke Davies (“Candy“), the movie will chronicle the relationship between movie star James Dean and photographer Dennis Stock. The latter first discovered Dean just before he came a massive star thanks to “East Of Eden,” and travelled the country with him taking pictures for Life magazine that would come to define the icon (hence the title, but why not call the movie “Dean”?)
Sounds like a fascinating story, and we’re always up for movies set up against the backdrop of Hollywood. Of course, we have to wonder how Corbijn will find his James Dean and who can fill those famous shoes, but if James Franco can do it, anybody can we suppose. Pre-production starts on this one in 2014.
