Hilarious. Kid went deep undercover method for ‘Terminator’!
Anton Yelchin has revealed that in preparing for his role as Kyle Reese in McG’s “Terminator Salvation,” the young actor drew inspirations from the aggression, hard-edge and rebellion of ’80s punk music.
“It was pretty intense,” Yelchin said to Dazed And Confused (via Oh No They Didn’t) of his role. “It was pretty dark finding the physical and mental state of the character. I was focusing on desolution and destruction, and the nothingness of his existence – the pain of losing everything around you. The amount of loss in his life is overwhelming.”
Wow, awesome, it’s great to see that none of that stuff ended up onscreen whatsoever, but hey, there was a CGI Arnold, the manwich that was Sam Worthington and lots of cool robots, right?
In order to achieve such, Yelchin noted that he used classic punk playlists as inspiration. “I wanted music that was badass and angry and a little out of control – The Exploited, GBH and The Dead Kennedys. But I also listened to a lot of Radiohead as well, because I really feel like there’s a sense of 21st-century loss in their music.” Oooh, watch out for this one.
But seriously, we really want to know what Jonah Nolan did on this script and why Christian Bale insisted he join the team because from what’s onscreen, it’s like the two of them (Nolan apparently wrote on-set) decided to have a summer vacation together while McG expertly shot some action soulless “Black Heart Down” action sequences. Maybe they were all too busy rocking out with Yelchin. Ahh, maybe that’s why the movie was so humorless.
