Antonio Banderas directing? In case you forgot, he actually has been behind the camera a couple of times before. In 1999 he made his feature debut with “Crazy In Alabama” and in 2006 he helmed the coming of age drama “Summer Rain.” The actor is set to return behind the camera — and star — in the psychological/sci-fi thriller “Solo.”
Written by Erik Jendresen (“The Big Bang,” “Band Of Brothers“) the film will focus on “a Spanish colonel (Banderas) suffering post-conflict trauma.” No word yet on where the “sci-fi” comes into play, but Banderas says the plot eventually “turns on solitude” as the title implies.
However, the actor/director isn’t too thrilled that he will have to shoot in English, saying, “Unfortunately, to reach large international markets, you have to shoot in English,” but will cast local Spanish actors in roles for the film. “Solo” will be produced via Banderas’ Green Moon company and will shoot next year, with a 2012 release being eyed.
