Appartion Acquires Nash Edgerton's Neo-Noir Thriller 'The Square'

Bob Berney’s Apparition have acquired North American rights to Australian neo-noir thriller “The Square,” directed by Nash Edgerton.

Co-scribed by his brother Joel, the film centers on an adulterous couple whose scheming leads them straight into an intricate web of lies, arson, blackmail and murder.

Joel Edgerton, who stars in David Michod’s upcoming “Animal Kingdom,” also features in this film along with leads David Roberts and Clare van der Boom for the Blue Tongue Films production, the same company behind “Animal Kingdom” and Spencer Susser’s “Hesher.”

Despite being released in Australia in 2008 and seemingly failing to light up the international festival market, it recently got a huge push from AICN’s Harry Knowles who put it in his top ten films of 2009. Indie-pop musician Ben Lee also contributed music for the film.

“The Square” will see an April 9th release stateside along with Edgerton’s short film “Spider.”
