We are less than two weeks remopved from the launch of Apple’s streaming service, Apple TV+. Now we have details on one of the first post-launch shows for the platform, “Servant.” The series is produced by thriller extraordinaire, M. Night Shyamalan, who has been behind films such as “Glass,” “Split,” and of course, “The Sixth Sense.” Now he is bringing his talents to Apple as the company looks to compete with the likes of Netflix and Disney+ for streaming superiority.
The story looks at a couple who have been hit with tragedy, with the trauma causing problems in their marriage as an unknown entity enters their home. Teasers for the show have been released on the Apple TV+ Youtube channel, including a baby rocking back and forth in a rocker staring blankly yet creepily at the camera. As well as a cricket entering the house via the plughole in the bath.
In the cricket trailer, a girl is heard saying, “when a cricket came into your home, something bad was coming.” Adding to the creepiness of what little is currently known about the show, but definitely intrigues those who are into psychological thrillers and horrors.
The writer of the show is BAFTA Award nominee Tony Basgallop, who has written for the BBC including “Hotel Babylon” and “Inside Men.” However one of his shows, “What Remains” looked similarly at a couple who had to deal with tragedy. Perhaps this series is a slight nod to his previous work but with added Shyamalan to give it that paranormal and disturbing feel.
Actors who have been cast in the series include Lauren Ambrose (“Six Feet Under”), Toby Kebbel (“Black Mirror”), Nell Tiger Free (“Game of Thrones) and Rupert Grint (“Harry Potter” film series).
Here is the synopsis:
Apple’s ‘Servant,’ follows a Philadelphia couple in mourning after an unspeakable tragedy creates a rift in their marriage and opens the door for a mysterious force to enter their home.
