‘Aquaman’ Honest Trailer: From Fish-Talking Zero To Hunky Hero

Sometimes the folks over at Screen Junkies have to do a bit of reaching to really come up with funny things to comment on in their Honest Trailers. However, with “Aquaman,” you can’t help but think that the writers had plenty of extra jokes that they couldn’t fit into the video’s relatively short five-minute run-time.

Let’s be honest, despite making over $1 billion at the box office and making fans’ heads explode with superhero bliss, “Aquaman” is not a great film. Fun film? Sure. Exciting film? Okay. Quality film with amazing filmmaking and edge-of-your-seat suspense? Not so much.

And the Screen Junkies crew hits all the low-hanging fruit in their “Aquaman” Honest Trailer. There are obvious jokes like Jason “My Man!” Momoa’s “smolder” look that he just might as well trademark at this point, the horrible use of wigs (particularly with Mera and Queen Atlanna), and the fact that James Wan really can’t escape the jump scares that he revolutionized in “The Conjuring,” as he tries to use explosive interruptions in much the same way.

But there are some other fun little tidbits that the Honest Trailer brings to light that had me actually LOL-ing. Perhaps my favorite part is the way they highlight Patrick Wilson’s yelling, which I noticed during my screening but didn’t realize was actually this over-the-top. And yes, for those superhero fans that notice these things, the Screen Junkies also bring to light the superhero’s wildly inconsistent power levels (he really couldn’t break out of those chains, but can somehow lift an entire submarine? Hmmm…).

Overall, much like the Venom” Honest Trailer, it feels like the folks at Screen Junkies were given a golden goose of jokes, handed to them on a sopping wet, Jason Momoa-filled platter.
