The Arcade Fire To Soundtrack The 'Where The Wild Things Are' Trailer; More Music In The Film?

The original — now infamous — and contentious test screenings of “Where The Wild Things Are” in early 2008 featured temp music that boasted tons of the Arcade Fire and also acoustic Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs songs.

We know this because we spoke to the source who wrote AICN and was the big leak from that initial screening. He told us last summer, “95% of the temp song placements were from the Arcade Fire, the rest were acoustic Yeah Yeah Yeah’s songs. The only placement I remember is that they played “Rebellion (Lies)” over the ‘wild rumpus scene.’ I’m not a fan of this band, but that scene turned that song into one of my new favorites. “

Subsequent to that screening, Karen O of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, was asked to write the songs and some score to the Spike Jonze-directed film (they did date at the time), with Deerhunter’s Bradford Cox helping out and Carter Burwell (who worked on “Adaptation” and ‘Malkovich’) also providing score music.

So it’s fitting this report from the Chud that says the Arcade Fire’s “Wake Up” (from their 2004 debut, Funeral) will be the music featured in the upcoming ‘Wild Things’ trailer. The band’s epic sounds have become a popular favorite for the movie trailer world. David Fincher also used an Arcade Fire songs (“My Body is A Cage”) last year in a TV spot for “The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button,” were were told was aimed at a younger demographic.

Does this mean like the Yeah, Yeah Yeahs, the Arcade Fire could be used in different parts of the movie? Maybe not the person that actually say the trailer says, the song in the trailer, “won’t be in the actual film obviously.” The full 3-minute experience is apparently going to debut in 10 days on March 27, in front of “Monsters And Aliens,” which means it will likely be online around the same time. Apparently it’s “gorgeous” and “beautiful,” with fully realized monsters and environments that look “magical.” We can’t wait.

Everyone’s heard “Wake Up” by now, but here’s a great live version of the song.
