Jennifer Lopez is no stranger to romantic comedies. She has quite a few under her belt over the past 20 years. However, her upcoming co-star in the new film “Shotgun Wedding,” Armie Hammer, hasn’t really ventured down that road before. So, it’ll be interesting to see how he manages himself.
According to Lionsgate, Lopez and Hammer have been cast in “Shotgun Wedding,” a new action-comedy, rom-com that is going to begin production soon. The film tells the story of an engaged couple (Lopez and Hammer) that have invited their families to experience their wedding day. But all those plans get thrown out of the window when the wedding gets taken hostage. Jason Moore will direct from a screenplay by Mark Hammer and Liz Meriwether. Moore is probably best known as the director of films such as “Pitch Perfect” and, most recently, the 2015 comedy, “Sisters.”
As mentioned, Lopez has starred in a number of rom-coms over the years, including “Monster-in-Law,” “The Back-Up Plan,” and “What to Expect When You Are Expecting.” Most recently, however, she wowed audiences with her supporting role in “Hustlers.” For Hammer, the closest thing he has to a rom-com is probably “Call Me By Your Name,” which definitely doesn’t fit the mold of the classic romantic comedy, for sure. He’s also known for his star-making role in “The Social Network,” as well as recent films such as “Wounds,” “Rebecca,” and the upcoming “Death on the Nile.”
“Jennifer and Armie’s irresistible magnetism, separately and together, make them the perfect pairing for this action comedy,” said Erin Westerman, President of Production for Lionsgate’s Motion Picture Group. “They are both incredibly funny actors that can also deliver on the action, but what sets this movie apart is the way their infectious chemistry commands the screen. You can’t take your eyes off them.”
Here’s the film’s synopsis:
In Shotgun Wedding, Darcy (Jennifer Lopez) and Tom (Armie Hammer) gather their lovable but very opinionated families for the ultimate destination wedding just as the couple begin to get cold feet. And if that wasn’t enough of a threat to the celebration, suddenly everyone’s lives are in danger when the entire party is taken hostage. “Til Death Do Us Part” takes on a whole new meaning in this hilarious, adrenaline-fueled adventure as Darcy and Tom must save their loved ones — if they don’t kill each other first.
No release date has been revealed for the upcoming comedy film. Production is expected to begin in early 2021.
