In case you haven’t been able to tell, we’re pretty over the moon about Jonathan Glazer‘s “Under The Skin” (you can see two of our comments about the movie in the latest trailer). And of the many elements that come together to make the picture so great, is the score by Mica Levi.
Who is Mica Levi? You might know her better as the frontwoman of alt-pop outfit Micachu & the Shapes, but kudos to Glazer from getting her on aboard to score his film, because the result is the kind of stuff that makes top ten lists at the end of the year. And the director knew almost immediately she’d be right for the gig.
“[Music producer Peter Raven] started playing me people like Hans Zimmer and [Zbigniew] Preisner, and all these great composers who have done magnificent work on scores, and number eight is this strange sound that came out, probably about 20 seconds of it and I immediately said, ‘Who’s that?’ He stopped the tape and told me who it was Mica Levi, she’s a very young girl, 24, she is classically trained, she was doing concertos with the London Philharmonic, she was 21, she’s also in a band Micachu And The Shapes,” the director told us last year at TIFF. “I thought this girl was unbelievable.” He was right.
And you’ll be able to hear it for yourself when the disc drops on April 1st. “Under The Skin” arrives on April 4th. Tracklist and artwork below. [Dummy]
