9 TV Shows To Watch In August Including 'Jack Ryan,' 'Disenchantment,' & 'Insecure'

Disenchantment
Synopsis: The unlikely trio of a hard-drinking princess, her elf companion, and “personal demon” get up to misadventures in the crumbling medieval kingdom of Dreamland.
What You Need To Know:  The odds appear to be that Matt Groening(“The Simpsons,” “Futurama”) is three for three with his latest animated series.  After a disastrous failed wedding to a truly doltish prince, Princess Bean of Dreamland (Abbi Jacobson) jumps ship from the royal life and embraces her boozy barfly side, flanked by feisty Elfo (Nat Faxon) and demon Luci (Eric Andre).  With a seasoned voice acting cast including John DiMaggio, Billy West, Maurice LaMarche,David Herman, Tress MacNeille, Jeny BattenRich Fulcher, Noel Fielding and Lucy Montgomery, “Disenchantment” looks to be a new animated classic that tears down the tropes and stereotypes of fairytales and fantasy with plenty of laughs along the way.
Release Date: August 17 on Netflix

Better Call Saul
Synopsis: After a devastating loss, Jimmy McGill travels further down the route to become Saul Goodman.
What You Need To Know: After being left with a number of precarious cliffhangers at the end of season three of AMC’s Better Call Saul,” the fourth season is arriving with fans at the edge of their seats. It’s impressive to think just how greatly this spin-off has exceeded our expectations following its announcement and premiere in 2015 and yet “Better Call Saul” hasn’t only gotten better with each season, it’s beginning to creep up on and, potentially exceed, the excellent precedent set but it’s predecessor “Breaking Bad.” Also, Season 4 promises to encroach on more of that “Breaking Bad” territory that fans have been expecting.
Release Date: August 6 on AMC

Ballers
Synopsis: Spencer Strasmore and his crew continue to expand their company, in particular into the field of extreme sports.
What You Need To Know: It feels wrong to complain about there being too much Dwayne Johnson projects as the man is a charisma machine. However, of all his many films, it’s his HBO series “Ballers” that remains so perplexing in its ongoing popularity. Easily digestible but forgettable when it’s not on-air, it’s the type of show that works as a pleasant enough way to pass the time, no matter the season, if only to see the wealth of talent that imbues the series with enough intrigue to keep people watching into its fourth season. We don’t always get it, but it’s hard to deny Johnson as anything but an audience draw.
