'Ava' Trailer: Jessica Chastain Is A Deadly Assassin Working For Colin Farrell & John Malkovich

Remember the action thriller ‘Eve,” now “Ava”? The film was embroiled in controversy out of the gate before production even started. Filmmaker Matthew Newton dropped out of helming the picture when past domestic violence incidents resurfaced. Determined to get the film made, lead actor and producer on the film, Jessica Chastain—her Freckle Films production company was behind the project—recruited Tate Taylor, director of Chastain’s hit film “The Help” to take over the movie in the summer of 2018.

Well, the picture, that co-stars Geena Davis, Colin Farrell, John Malkovich, Common, Jess Weixler, Diana Silvers, Ioan Gruffudd, and more is finally close to arrival, has been picked up by Vertical Entertainment and comes out… well, we don’t know yet, the trailer doesn’t say, but presumably soon, and likely on VOD given the habits of Vertical Entertainment (that recently released “Capone”). DirectTV is involved in the release too, so given their release pattern, the thriller will likely open on their channel first.

There is no official, official synopsis, but the IMDB one says:

And that definitely looks to be the gist of the film, an action thriller about a life that goes sideways for a deadly assassin who then has to fight her way out of her mess and get revenge.

Relatively new, Freckle Films has two more films in the works, “The Eyes of Tammy Faye,” which depicts the history of televangelists Tammy Faye Bakker and Jim Bakker and co-stars Andrew Garfield. The second is “355,” a spy film directed by Simon Kinberg (Chastain’s “X-Men” director) that also stars Penélope Cruz, Fan Bingbing, Lupita Nyong’o, Diane Kruger, Sebastian Stan, and Édgar Ramírez.

No date on “Ava” yet, but presumably later this summer. Watch the first trailer below.
