Titles For James Cameron's 4 Upcoming 'Avatar' Sequels Are Revealed & They Don't Really Tell Us Much

You didn’t really think that James Cameron was going to call his “Avatar” sequels “Avatar 2,” “Avatar 3,” “Avatar 4” and “Avatar 5,” did you? According to a report from BBC News, who claims to have seen internal documentation, Cameron’s upcoming four “Avatar” sequels have very unique titles. Let’s go down the list, shall we?

First, you have “Avatar: The Way of Water,” which is scheduled to hit theaters December 18, 2020. This title makes sense, as it’s been revealed by multiple actors and the filmmaker himself that the next film will be largely set underwater. Why? Because he’s James Cameron and he isn’t content with just doing the same thing over and over again. So, underwater it is.

Next, there’s “Avatar: The Seed Bearer,” with its December 2021 targeted release date. ‘The Seed Bearer’ clearly will make more sense after ‘The Way of Water’ is released. But based on the title alone, and pure speculation, ‘Avatar 3’ is either going to involve a seed as the magical MacGuffin or maybe a pregnant alien? Honestly, we’re talking about a franchise that features aliens having sex through their ponytails, so just about anything is on the table.

Coming in December 2024 (better make your plans now because surely nothing will over the next six years), Cameron will release “Avatar: The Tulkun Rider.” As for what we can possibly now about Tulkuns and those that ride them (or perhaps Tulkuns are doing the riding?), there’s really not much. We do know that over the next sequel and probably also in ‘Avatar 3,’ Cameron will introduce new species of aliens other than the blue Na’vi. So perhaps Tulkuns are the underwater beings?

And finally, film fans should probably let their jobs know they’ll need a Friday in December 2025 free to go to the cinema and watch “Avatar: The Quest for Eywa.” Again, this tells us absolutely nothing, other than there will be a quest and the goal will be to find and/or protect Eywa. Whether Eywa is a person, place, or thing? Your guess is as good as mine. But one thing is for sure, it’s definitely important. Just like that unobtanium from the first film.

So, there you have it. All four ‘Avatar’ sequels have titles that mean nothing at this point. Feel free to speculate away in the comments or with your other ‘Avatar’ buddies on social media.
