'Avengers: Infinity War': Will A Major Character Die At The Beginning Of The Film?

As we approach the release date for “Avengers: Infinity War,” the rumor mill is heating up. And today we have some rumors about the film, as well as ‘Avengers 4,’ and some new tidbits about what you might expect on the eventual Blu-ray that we know everyone is going to end up buying.

The first bit of news today comes from Screen Geek. The website claims that a “reliable source” has information about ‘Infinity War’ that is sure to send fans’ minds racing. According to the site, there’s a major death that’s going to happen in the film (Duh…), but not in the way you’re thinking. Apparently, there’s going to be a major death that starts the film:

“The beginning of ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ features the death of a major Marvel character. Some fans will be expecting it, while others will be blindsided. It sets the tone for the rest of the movie – as well as the future of the MCU. It’s good that the Russo Brothers are telling fans to be emotionally prepared for the film – because they’ll definitely need to be. Whether you’re expecting it or not, it’s going to be BIG.”

The site speculates this might reference Loki, and we tend to agree. The character is shown in one brief clip (holding one of the precious Infinity Stones, no less) in all the footage so far, and his death/sacrifice would definitely show that Thanos means business.

No matter who dies, however, don’t be too sad. Judging by comments made by the directing duo of Joe and Anthony Russo, the eventual Blu-ray is going to have plenty of deleted scenes and outtakes. So, your dead character might have a few extra seconds of life, yet!

“We were very tight with the scripts on ‘Winter Soldier’ and ‘Civil War,’ so there weren’t a lot of extras,” Joe Russo told Digital Spy. “This is a very big movie with a lot of characters in it, and we played around with a lot of improvisation, because we had new chemistry that we were defining between characters. It was the first time ever that all these characters were on screen together, so we played around with quite a bit of footage, and I think there will be some good stuff for the DVD.”

And since we’re so close to the release of the latest Marvel Studios superhero epic, it’s time to hypothesize about the future films. The biggest question mark over the next couple years is about ‘Avengers 4.’ We know it’s happening. We know that most of it is shot (minus inevitable reshoots). But we don’t even know the plot or title. However, according to the Hashtag Show, we know that there is probably going to be a bit of a time-jump.

The report says that Cassie Lang, daughter of Paul Rudd’s Scott Lang aka Ant-Man, is scheduled to show up in the fourth ‘Avengers’ film. This time though, she’s going to be older, signaling that there may be a bit of a time-jump between films.

They also have reported that actress Emma Fuhrmann has been cast as the older Cassie saying, “…we reached out to a source for confirmation of Fuhrmann’s casting and were told that the young actress did indeed fill the role of Cassie Lang during some scenes.” Her management had no comment.

This is meaningful in a variety of ways. Not only does it signal that the fourth film might be more different than anticipated, but also signals that new heroes might be showing up. Cassie Lang, in the comics, grows up to be an Avenger herself, as the character Stature. Perhaps, Marvel is laying the groundwork for a new crop of heroes in the future?

First things first, we have to wait for “Avengers: Infinity War” to hit theaters April 27.
