UPDATED: Marvel Studios released an updated poster, adding Gurira’s name, which is confirmed in the tweet at the bottom of the original article.
By now, you’ve probably watched the newest trailer for “Avengers: Endgame.” Some of you might have watched it numerous times, dissecting every morsel, as you look for clues to April’s film (embarrassingly raises hand). But the arrival of the new trailer was accompanied by a new poster. And while there’s plenty to talk about regarding the trailer, one of the biggest discussions on social media is about the poster. Particularly, what’s not on the poster.

As you might expect at this point, the latest poster for “Avengers: Endgame” is fresh out of Photoshop, with a bazillion characters in various poses and various angles, looking off into the distance at…something? Dollar signs? Freedom from the MCU? That being said, this Photoshop Frankenstein’s Monster of a poster is actually pretty darn heroic-looking, and gives some prominent placement to some of the lesser-experienced members of the Avengers.
One of those people that are featured in the new poster is Danai Gurira’s Okoye. Appearing in both “Black Panther” and “Avengers: Infinity War,” Okoye has struck a chord with Marvel fans and quickly become a favorite in the MCU. So, seeing her on the poster of an ‘Avengers’ film is pretty awesome. However, there’s one problem. Gurira isn’t a credited actor on the poster.
Well, you might be saying, “They can’t credit everyone on the poster, right? There are a bazillion characters.” That’s true, but see, that’s the issue – they did credit everyone. At least, everyone on the poster. There are 13 characters on the poster and only 12 names. Hell, as many have pointed out, Bradley Cooper’s face isn’t in the poster (he provides the voice for Rocket) and he gets credit.
Yes, there are all sorts of behind-the-scenes maneuvering to decide which names get mentioned, what order they’re presented, and even who gets the coveted “With” credit at the end. But did you guys really have to leave out Gurira, who also happens to be the only female person of color on the poster? Oof.

“Avengers: Endgame” hits theaters on April 26. Because the poster says so.
UPDATE: New Marvel Studios tweet –
She should have been up there all this time. Check out the official Marvel Studios' #AvengersEndgame poster. @DanaiGurira #WakandaForever pic.twitter.com/5V1veWMxlz

Here’s just a sampling of some of the outrage on Twitter:
Me and everyone after @MarvelStudios @Avengers poster dropped WITHOUT #DanaiGurira being credited even tho she's on the poster! ????#AvengersEndgametrailer #AvengersEngame pic.twitter.com/zUpo4hm23S

I would agree until I saw that #DanaiGurira name was left off in the above credits.

BLACK PANTHER star Danai Gurira is the only actor pictured whose name isn’t billed at the top. Her image is larger than some actors who do get that billing. The only one from the franchise’s best and most profitable movie, and yet? @MarvelStudios, this isn’t difficult. Fix this. https://t.co/22miymysgj

she is the only black woman on that poster, the highest profile post-snappening wakandan, a firm fan favorite, and freaking actual DANAI GURIRA to boot. put some respect on her name, damn.
— Bim Adewunmi (@bimadew) March 14, 2019
Black women always get the short end of the stick. Why isn’t @DanaiGurira’s name on here but everyone else’s is? Literally everyone else but her. Tf?! ???? https://t.co/zWeciVk4W2

Odd to not see Danai Guirira's name on this poster. Made room for every actor but her. #AvengersEndgame pic.twitter.com/9Th7JWoLh6

Um… why is the ONLY person who appears on this poster that is NOT credited Danai Gurira? I’m pretty sure that needs rectifying quickly Marvel! Mainly because she deserves her name up there just as much as everyone else. And also, because Okoye is Queen ????????

I mean, they've got Bradley Cooper's name in there and he's just the VOICE of Rocket. Danai Gurira is the ONLY person on the poster not to be listed by name. https://t.co/zPUVRQBrDf
— Christopher Golden (@ChristophGolden) March 14, 2019
Every actor who appears on the poster has their name listed at the top………except Danai Gurira, the one Black woman. https://t.co/owZYC6yYXs
