It’s not even April 27th yet, and Thanos is already wreaking havoc on our planet.
That might be a bit of hyperbole, but the truth is the upcoming villain stars in “Avengers: Infinity War,” and that film is causing a bit of a headache for studios around Hollywood. As we reported recently, ‘Infinity War’ moved its release date up a week from May 4 to April 27. There were a few different factors at play, but the general result is that one of the biggest films of the year shifted its date. Now, we are starting to see the dominoes fall.
You would think that just moving one week wouldn’t be such a big deal. Well, tell that to Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Amy Schumer. After the announcement from Marvel Studios, Amy Schumer posted on her Instagram that her comedy “I Feel Pretty” is moving from its original date of April 27 to one week earlier, April 20. In a funny, and possibly sad, comment on Robert Downey, Jr’s Instagram, she said, “Ok cool um well I’ll just um. April 20th is when I guess [“I Feel Pretty”] will come out then but it’s not cause we are scared of you guys. Um. It’s because I forgot I had a thing.” Just for clarification, the “um’s” are all her.
But “I Feel Pretty” isn’t the only film feeling the ‘Infinity War’ heat. None other than action badass Dwayne Johnson is bowing to Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. According the The Hollywood Reporter, Johnson’s latest film, “Rampage,” is shifting dates by one week, as well. Originally slated for April 20, giving the film two weeks to breathe before ‘Infinity War,’ “Rampage” is now shifting a week earlier, to April 13, preserving the two-week gap.
Unfortunately, this also means that there will only be a two week gap between “Rampage” and Steven Spielberg’s “Ready Player One,” which opens March 30. We’re reaching a point where it’s ludicrous to think that “Ready Player One” would be able to move, but who knows?
Spring box office receipts will tell the final tale of this release date shuffle.
