With Joss Whedon now officially in the director’s chair, and the principle cast locked in, “The Avengers” is now firmly on its way to its May 4, 2012 release. Now, some more concrete news on when it’s likely to be heading in front of cameras has turned up.
Superhero Hype are reporting that the film will be shooting in LA from February, presumably geared around Robert Downey Jr.’s schedule on “Sherlock Holmes 2.” Not only that, but the often reliable Showbiz 411 are reporting that the film will be shot in 3D; not a huge surprise, but considering that both “Thor” and “Captain America” are being converted in post-production, it’s at least comforting to know that Whedon’s going the more advanced route.
While plot details are still under wraps, we at least know that the film will feature Downey Jr. as Iron Man, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Chris Evans as Captain America, Mark Ruffalo as The Hulk, Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye, Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow and Clark Gregg as Agent Coulson. If you can’t wait the 21 months before it hits theaters, you can check out a surprisingly decent 1950s-style mock trailer for the film below, via Blastr.
