'Bad Teacher' Is Now A Franchise: With TV Series On The Way, Sony Developing 'Bad Teacher 2'

nullSo, is “Bad Teacher,” now a bonafide comedy brand, ready to throttle multiple platforms? We’ll soon find out, but with the 2011 comedy taking in over $200 million worldwide — a figure not many were expecting — it’s safe to say there’s an audience for this. And its appetite will be filled.

You may have forgotten, but the concept has already spun off in a TV series headed to CBS starring Ari Graynor, which the network has ordered up and will debut later this or early next year, as a midseason programmer. And now Sony has started the inevitable development on “Bad Teacher 2,” with Cameron Diaz in mind to star, though no contracts have been inked yet. And we presume Jason Segel will be roped in to return as well. Anyway, Jake Kasdan will return to direct and Justin Malen has written a script the studio likes because “it hits all the notes that made the first film such a breakthrough hit and also takes the characters in a new direction that is fresh and fun.” HIGH FIVE!

So lots of public educators doing bad things coming your way next. Who knew that concept would become popular? Anyway, until the sequel comes along, Sony is already back in business with Diaz/Kasdan/Segel on “Sex Tape,” with the raunchy road trip comedy also in the works. [Deadline]
