With Cannes kicking off tomorrow with its slate of quality fare, we need something like this bit of news to remind us Hollywood is never without inspired, if not misguidedly lame, ideas.
Deadline reports that “Men In Black” franchise helmer Barry Sonnenfeld isn’t done with aliens just yet and plans to direct a movie in which dinosaurs will square off against space creatures. Sigh. Listen, we’re not opposed to random mashups. Jon Favreau‘s “Cowboys & Aliens” looks like it will be a wickedly smart and fun good time. But this? Well, it’s starting off on the right foot with celebrated comic writer Grant Morrison penning the graphic novel which will serve the basis of the script that he will also write. But then it goes onto the wrong foot by being about “a secret prehistoric world war battle. When an alien invasion attacks Earth in the age of the dinosaurs, the planet’s only hope is the giants that roam the planet with, it turns out, a lot more intelligence than previously realized.”
Wasn’t this a joke on the shortlived “The Critic” way back in the day? Oh yeah, it kind of was. In case you care how “Dominion: Dinosaurs Versus Aliens” — yep, that’s the Troma-esque title — will turn out, the graphic novel will be published later this year by Liquid Comics.
