Batman Insider Kevin Smith Thinks You'll See Multiple Batsuits & Batmobiles In 'Batman Vs. Superman'

If we’ve learned anything at all from Zack Snyder’s upcoming “Batman Vs. Superman” movie, perhaps one of the most fascinating is that Ben Affleck is still friends with Kevin Smith. They were bros before Oscars and prestige I guess, and they still are, so that’s cool. Anyhow, Smith seems to have had the inside scoop on “Batman Vs. Superman” for some months now due to his friendship with the Academy Award winner.

The recent reveal of the Batsuit drove the internet into panting overdrive, to the point there were hundreds of lists and thinkpieces exploded everywhere about one black and white photo (colorized, examined, zoomed-in and pored-the-world-over by many). Smith had been teasing for months that the Batsuit would blow minds and hinting at this and that, but interviewed about the subject once more, Smith served out a few more tantalizing possibilities.

“As you may remember, I saw a photo of the Batsuit many months ago, and many people asked online, ‘Is that the picture you saw?’ No, that is a very cool picture, but that is not the picture I saw,” Smith said on his Hollywood-Babble-On podcast (via Comic Book).”They put it on a fake rooftop, and they lit it up. But it was in color, and you could see every piece of detail. So I’ve seen some people online go, ‘Why is this f***ing suit any different than the Chris Nolan Batsuit, it’s all one f***ing color.’ It’s like, ‘Dude, that’s a monochrome photo. You know what that means, one chrome.”

Furthermore, Smith thinks that’s not the most accurate depiction of the suit he’s seen and alluded to the graphic novel that Snyder himself mentioned when the movie was first announced.

“That’s not a representation of what the suit looks like,” Smith continued. “So what the suit looks like, and I was always kind of keeping it quiet until they revealed it, but they’ve revealed it. And you can kind of see, and anybody that…you’ve seen some people take the picture and color it online. If you want to see what this f***ing suit looks like, you just go to Frank Miller’s ‘The Dark Knight Returns,’ go to the third book, ‘Hunt the Dark Knight‘…it’s the exact f***ing outfit he’s wearing. That’s why I hugged that guy all those months ago.”

Smith’s co-host, Ralph Garman, said he thought the new Batmobile looked similar to the Tumbler and Smith teased something that may drive fans even wilder. “I will put this to you. What if it’s one of a few Batmobiles? What if that’s one of a few outfits in the movie? I suspect that’s the case.”

And if it’s too dark for you, Smith says you’re wrong. “That costume is the smart way to go. Number one, it’s a crowd favorite, a big fan favorite,” he told MTV in a separate interview. “Anyone who knows ‘Dark Knight Returns,’ and that’s a lot of people at this point, thanks for the work being out for years, and also the cartoon movie, that’s the Batman costume we’ve always dreamed about seeing in cinema.”

Spoiler? You can thank Kevin Smith if it turns out to be true. “Batman Vs. Superman” hits theaters on May 6, 2016, the same weekend when Marvel hopes to release “Captain America 3,” and the same weekend no one actually expects for either film to go toe-to-toe.
