BBC Worldwide and PBS’ Masterpiece Theater are teaming up to jump aboard the reboot train with their take on “Sherlock Holmes.”
As we all know Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law took in a healthy box haul in Guy Ritchie’s loose and bromantic take on the crime-solving duo that will see the sequel shoot this summer. The BBC/PBS version will star Benedict Cumberbatch (“Atonement,” “Four Lions”) as Sherlock and Martin Freeman (UK “The Office,” “Hot Fuzz”) as Watson. The production will be a “21st century spin” on the characters and stories. Meh.
We’re sort of indifferent about this, and we guess as far as marketing goes it’s probably best to drop a new “Sherlock Holmes” television series on the public when the film version is still fresh in their minds. No word yet on when production is scheduled to start.
