Believe! 'Henry Poole' Channels Obama, Could Feature Your Music On The Soundtrack

We all remember “Henry Poole Is Here,” yes? This summer’s requisite quirky indie film is about a disillusioned drunk who attempts to hide from life in his rundown suburban home only to find he can’t escape the forces of hope when his neighbors discover a vision of Jesus as a water stain on the side of his house and then all hell breaks loose when pilgrimages to his home begin and modern-day miracles star to occur (hello run-on synopsis).

The film stars Luke Wilson (“The Royal Tenenbaums,” “Old School”), Academy Award nominee Adriana Barraza (“Babel”) and Radha Mitchell (“Finding Neverland”) and is directed by Mark Pellington – a former music video director who made his name directing famous videos for Pearl Jam (“Jeremy“), NIN, Foo Fighters, The Flaming Lips and Alice In Chains and then he went on to direct the concert film “U2 3D” and a bunch of other semi-forgettable films (“Arlington Road”).

Well, a new poster for the film is obviously playing off the Obama progress and change campaign in a fairly cute and innocuous way and the film was running a online songwriting contest in conjunction with MySpace. The winner will be announced on July 15 and will have their song featured in a music video to be directed by Pellington and underwritten by Overture Films, Lakeshore Entertainment.

That winning submission will also be included on the DVD release of the film and the song will be included on the digital release of the soundtrack, with an option for the winners to perform their song at the Hollywood premiere of the film.

We’re still waiting for overall confirmation, but we already know the “Henry Poole Is Here” soundtrack features The Eels‘ “Love Of The Loveless,” “All Roads Lead Home” by Cali alt-rockers Golden State, “IO (This Time Around),” by L.A. shoegazers Helen Stellar and “Silhouettes” by North Carolina Ambient pop duo Alt-Ctrl-Sleep. The movie features additional tracks by Bob Dylan, Badly Drawn Boy, Ben Harper and Blur. The film hits theaters August 15.

The trailer features a track from the Bravery fitting called “Believe.” The soundtrack comes out on August 12, we should have details shortly (see soundtrack cover to your above).
