Ben Affleck To Star In & Direct New WWII Film 'Ghost Army'

With the whole Batman debacle behind him, it’s time for Ben Affleck to focus on the future. And no, that future doesn’t include tights and a secret identity. It appears that the actor-director is set to do what he does best, direct and star in a major feature film.

Deadline is reporting that Affleck has signed on to direct and star in the upcoming film “Ghost Army.” The film is based on the book, “The Ghost Army of World War II: How One Top-Secret Unit Deceived the Enemy with Inflatable Tanks, Sound Effects, and Other Audacious Fakery.” Yes, that’s quite a mouthful. But basically, the story follows a secret group of soldiers in World War II that utilized sleight of hand and illusions to fake out the Nazis. Sounds either really cool or slightly hokey. We’ll just have to see how it turns out. The film is also based on a Netflix documentary titled “Ghost Army.”

“Ghost Army” will be directed off a script written by Nic Pizzolatto. The writer is the mastermind behind HBO’s hugely popular “True Detective” series, but has film credits in his IMDB including “The Magnificent Seven” remake and last year’s “Galveston” (even though he worked to get his name removed from the final cut).

Affleck, of course, is the Oscar-winning filmmaker behind “Argo” and “Good Will Hunting.” As a director, he’s also helmed films like “Live By Night,” “Gone Baby Gone,” and “The Town.” He’s acted in numerous films of varying quality, but can most recently be seen in the Netflix film “Triple Frontier.”
