'Better Things' Final Season 5 Trailer: All Good Things Come To An End, But There's A "Road Ahead"

While initially sold as a Louie C.K. executive produces and co-signs his buddy Pamela Adlon’s new show, similar in vibe and shape to the critically-acclaimed “Louie,” clearly things have changed for “Better Things.” For one, C.K. had his #MeToo moment and fell out of cultural favor, and was removed as an executive producer and creator on the show. And yes, while “Better Things” did have a similar aesthetic as “Louie” at first—the travails of getting older, parenthood, and watching yourself slowly age out of culture and to your kids—Adlon’s show has definitely found its own voice in recent years, a sweeter, but still darkly funny take on motherhood,  letting go and trying to accept that we cannot change all things.

And with all that, as the show has grown in its infinite wisdom, F.X. and Adlon are putting a final pin in it and going out on top. “Better Things” ends this season, its fifth, and it looks like it’s an interesting goodbye and looking ahead to the future generations: Adlon’s children in the show. The final season of “Better Things” premieres 2/28 on F.X. and can be streamed on Hulu. Here’s the official synopsis:

In its fifth and final chapter, Better Things focuses on ‘the road ahead’ for its unconventional, unfiltered heroine, Sam Fox (Pamela Adlon), so devoted to her life as a working actor and single mother of three that she’s left little time for that one elusive thing: herself. As she navigates three daughters, each coming of age; the challenges of her chosen career; and her mother’s increasing signs of aging (as well as her own)—Sam embraces each moment, and each member of her family, with a fierce love, raw honesty and biting humor. As each of the Fox women come of age into the next phase of their life, they are inspired to reevaluate themselves, learn from the past and find their own direction.

“Better Things” premieres on Monday, February 28 at 10 p.m. ET/PT on F.X. and streaming on Hulu, followed by a new episode each subsequent week. Watch the first trailer for season five below.
