Bill Hader has become a go-to voice for animation houses and features to utilize for big and small parts, with his work in the “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs” series to “Sausage Party,” to “Inside Out” and much more. It seems that no animated part is too big or small for Hader to jump into and consistently knock out of the park.
In this episode of The Discourse, Bill Hader joins the show to talk about his role as Cyrus Strange in “The Addams Family 2.” At the start of the interview, we talk about why he took on the villainous role in the animated sequel.
“It’s a mad scientist. When you do stuff that’s live action you don’t get a chance to play things that are really arch, like those big kind of performances in old movies, so getting a chance to do that in any capacity, I’m like, “Yeah! It’ll be fun!” said Hader.
Of course, it wouldn’t be complete without bringing up the upcoming season of Hader’s hit HBO series, “Barry.”
“We’re shooting ‘Barry’ right now, and that tends to take over my life. And we’ve written Season 4, so I’m in ‘Barry’ world for a while,” he said.
Hader also detailed that the pandemic allowed him and his writers to not only write Season 4, but also tweak what they’d already written for the upcoming season which he says will arrive this spring.
“Yeah, I think it’s Spring [2022] – we have a month left of shooting, but it’s been fun, it’s just exhausting. I’m directing five out of eight episodes, and Alec Berg is directing the other three,” Hader said.
“We were two weeks from shooting when the pandemic happened, so we have a year and a half break,” he added. “Might as well write another season! Which was actually really helpful, because actually by writing that, we went back to the third and then restructured a lot of stuff.”
