Bill Hader's Slasher Film Now Called 'House of Joel,' An Apatow Project Now Set Up At Universal

Updates on Bill Hader’s slasher film, once apparently titled, “When A Stranger Calls A Dude,” though even that is new info to all of us.

In January of this year, Hader said he had pitched the project to Judd Apatow, and described it as “Straw Dogs” meets “Halloween”meets “Home Alone” meets “Monster Squad,” but was skeptical that it could ever get made.

More recently he revealed the project was written with with SNL writer Simon Rich and that the script was completed and handed in.

Now the project is evidently called “House of Joel” and is set up at Universal which bodes more positively than Hader’s previous thoughts on the film. Hader will play Joel, but he’s not the slasher character and the film abandoned its previous titled because the killer apparently never calls Joel. Seems a little abstract unless you’ve read it which none of us have. Either way, Hader seems like a super nice dude and is much beloved in blog and comedy circles so hopefully this one gets greenlit.
