26-year old Swedish actor Bill Skarsgård (“Hemlock Grove”) takes on the role of Pennywise, the sewer-swimming demon clown, for director Andrés Muschietti’s (“Mama”) revival of Stephen King’s bedtime horror story, “It.” Skarsgård has some big clown shoes to fill since Tim Curry terrified children everywhere back in ABC’s 1990 miniseries.
Stephen King says of his forbidding creation, “But then I thought to myself, ‘There ought to be one binding, horrible, nasty, gross, creature kind of thing that you don’t want to see, [and] it makes you scream just to see it.’ So I thought to myself, ‘What scares children more than anything else in the world?’ And the answer was ‘clowns’.” Obviously.
