Production Weekly now say that Billy Crudup and Toby Jones have joined the cast of “Enchantress Of Numbers” starring Zooey Deschanel and directed by Bruce Beresford (“Driving Miss Daisy”).
As we previously reported, Deschanel is in talks to play 19th Century English writer Ada Lovelace. One of the most unique, fascinating women of the 1800s and dubbed the “founder of scientific computing,” she was the daughter of the poet Lord Byron, and after an illness-ridden childhood met the mathematician and philosopher Charles Babbage. While her contributions are still debated, many consider her the first true computer programmer.
At a guess, we’d say that Crudup might play William King, Lovelace’s husband, while Jones could be Charles Babbage. The new pair are two of our favorite working actors, so all in all, it’s shaping up to be a damn fine cast. –Oli Lyttleton
