Well, the first day of December is nearly done, and the New York Film Critics Circle won’t go to bed as the only group to hand out honors. Tonight the Gotham Awards served out a bunch of trophies, and once again, it will cause prognosticators to reconsider the crystal ball.
Alejandro Gonzalez Iñárritu‘s "Birdman" walked away with Best Feature and Best Actor, so before you can declare "Boyhood" the frontrunner, it seems opinion is wide ranging. That said, Richard Linklater‘s film did take the Audience Award, and it should be noted that the Gothams don’t do Supporting Actor categories or pretty much any of the technical categories, so only a few films can squeak through to the winners circle. But they do throw a spotlight on emerging filmmakers and actors, which is always nice to see.
