Desiree Akhavan is having a pretty great 2018. After winning the Grand Jury Prize at this year’s Sundance, thanks to her film “The Miseducation of Cameron Post,” the writer-director is moving to the world of TV, with her latest project, “The Bisexual.” And if the first full trailer for the Hulu series is any indication, it appears Akhavan is about to cap off 2018 with a bang…of sorts.

For “The Bisexual,” Akhavan is not only writing and directing the six-episode series, but she also stars as Leila, a woman coming out of a long-term relationship with a woman and begins exploring her sexuality in ways she never has before. Namely, she begins fooling around with men, with awkward and hilarious consequences. With the help of her equally awkward roommate and her best friend, Liela attempts to simultaneously get over her previous relationship while navigating this new dating frontier.
Joining Akhavan in the cast of “The Bisexual” are Maxine Peake, who is known for her roles in the British “Shameless,” “Black Mirror,” and the upcoming film “Peterloo,” and Brian Gleeson, who has appeared in recent films like “mother!” “Logan Lucky,” “Phantom Thread,” and the upcoming “Hellboy.”
“The Bisexual” hits Hulu on November 16.
