'Black Adam': Quintessa Swindell Officially Announced As DC Comics Heroine Cyclone

The Justice Society of America has added yet another member to the ranks for Dwayne Johnson‘s DC Comics film “Black Adam.” Actress Quintessa Swindell has landed the part of Maxine Hunkell aka Cyclone, the granddaughter of the Red Tornado. The news first revealed by The Hollywood Reporter was later confirmed by a social media post from star/producer Dwayne Johnson on Twitter.

Johnson also reaffirmed a production start this spring which is said to be taking place in Atlanta, Georgia.

Swindell joins a cast that consists of Dwayne Johnson as the titular anti-hero Black Adam, Aldis Hodge as Hawkman, Noah Centineo as Atom Smasher, and Sarah Shahi in a supporting role as well. The next big role to be announced is whoever is playing the mystical character of Doctor Fate.

Black Adam” is directed by Jaume Collet-Serra, and its release date is currently TBD. The film was originally scheduled for December 2021, but WB pulled it from the schedule following a major DC release date shift this year. The French director had once been attached to helm the ambitious live-action “Akira” feature film based on the iconic Japanese manga for Warner Bros. before exiting over creative differences and budgeting issues.

There has been some fan anticipation when we’ll ultimately see a crossover between Zachary Levi‘s “Shazam!” and Johnson’s Black Adam as the two characters come to blows in the comics. However, there has been some indication the pair won’t be interacting until “Shazam! 3.”

Wonder Woman 1984” is the next installment from the DC universe coming to theaters and HBO Max on Christmas. There is also a whole slew of DC Comics films on the way such as “The Batman,” “The Flash,” “Shazam! Fury of The Gods,” and multiple series eventually heading to HBO Max.
