'Black Mirror' Season 4 Trailer: A Release Date Is Finally Revealed

Netflix has been playing a coy game with the upcoming fourth season of Charlie Brooker‘s anxiety-inducing “Black Mirror,” releasing trailer after trailer and posters for each episode and yet hiding the release date. The holiday flavored strategy has been called the 13 Days of Black Mirror, which is now wrapping up and the star of David on top is that final reveal: the Emmy-winning series launches on Friday, December 29th and they’ve delivered a final trailer teasing all the episodes in one big supercut-y mash-up.

So you’ll be able to close the book on 2017 and ring in the New Year with six all-new episodes of the series, which this season stars Jesse Plemons, Rosemarie DeWitt, Jimmi Simpson, Cristin Milioti, Aldis Hodge, Maxine Peake, Andrea Riseborough, Letitia Wright and Michaela Coel, among countless others. Heavyweight directors on “Black Mirror” Season 4 include Jodie Foster, Toby Haynes, John Hillcoat, Colm McCarthy, Tim Van Patten and David Slade. Here’s the overarching synopsis of the series:

Black Mirror is an anthology series that taps into our collective unease with the modern world, with each stand-alone episode a sharp, suspenseful tale exploring themes of contemporary techno-paranoia leading to an unforgettable – and sometimes unsettling – conclusion. Without questioning it, technology has transformed all aspects of our lives; in every home; on every desk; in every palm – a plasma screen; a monitor; a Smartphone – a Black Mirror reflecting our 21st Century existence back at us. The series is created and written by Charlie Brooker, and executive produced by Brooker and Annabel Jones.

One supposes “Black Mirror” won’t be eligible for any best of year-end TV lists, and it might’ve been perfect to release the series a little bit closer to Christmas when you can spend those last few days of the year, lounging in your pajamas and binging the show while drunk on eggnog. But Netflix doesn’t care when you’re watching, as long as you are watching. Perhaps the streaming services’ addictive qualities would make a good subject on the show. Check out the trailer and get prepped for season four.
