Back in March, Netflix posted a cryptic (go figure!) tweet announcing that the streaming service had picked up the popular sci-fi anthology series “Black Mirror” for the fifth season (or series for those outside of the US). No details were mentioned, but for the last 6+ months, fans have been on high-alert. Then came word that one of the upcoming episodes would be utilizing a choose-your-own-adventure technology and we rumors swirled that “Black Mirror” would return before the end of 2018. Well, good news! Your sci-fi, dystopian future, scary-as-fuck series is returning before we ring in the new year.
According to The Mirror, Netflix is scheduled to release at least the first installment of “Black Mirror” Season 5, titled ‘Bandersnatch’ on December 28. However, Netflix hasn’t officially made the announcement. The way we know that this is almost a certainty is that a tweet went up from a verified account that showed what appears to be a marketing material from the Netflix social media accounts focused on the “genre” selections debuting in December, such as “Bird Box,” “Watership Down,” “Avengers: Infinity War,” and yes, “Black Mirror: Bandersnatch.”

The tweet was eventually deleted, obviously, but the screenshot lives on. And this isn’t just some photoshopped fake, either. It looks just as official as anything coming from the massive streaming service, so we’re inclined to believe it. For those that aren’t aware of the series (and at this point, if you have Netflix, you’ve probably watched it or at least been told by all your friends to watch it), “Black Mirror” is created by Charlie Brooker and is known for its wide-variety of incredible stand-alone ‘Twilight Zone’-esque episodes featuring some of the best actors in the world.
So, fans of “Black Mirror,” plan your post-Christmas, pre-New Year’s Eve time accordingly. Netflix is getting ready to welcome 2019 with some new sci-fi goodness.
