“Blade Runner” turns 35 years old this year, and while the ultimate celebration will hopefully arrive with Denis Villeneuve‘s sequel “Blade Runner 2049,” there’s another way you can blow out the candles on the cake. Warner Bros. is gearing up to release a 4K edition of the film, and if you thought Ridley Scott‘s sci-fi couldn’t look more dazzling, guess again.
The trailer presents the director’s grimy, futuristic Los Angeles with its fresh coat of paint, and it’s looking better than ever. There will undoubtedly be plenty of rewatches of “Blade Runner” in anticipation of ‘2049,’ but you should know its the The Final Cut that’s getting the treatment. It’s essentially the 1992 Director’s Cut, with more digital tweaks, subtle edits throughout, and longer unicorn footage, but don’t worry, that voiceover narration is still gone from the earlier versions of the movie. Here’s the official synopsis:
21st-century detective Rick Deckard brings his masculine-yet-vulnerable presence to this stylish noir thriller. In a future of high-tech possibility soured by urban and social decay, Deckard hunts for fugitive, murderous replicants – and is drawn to a mystery woman whose secrets may undermine his soul.
“Blade Runner: The Final Cut” 4K Blu-ray hits stores on September 5th. “Blade Runner 2049” opens on October 6th.
