Talk about a movie that has #problematic written all over it. Leslie Mann, John Cena, and Ike Barinholtz star in this comedy (produced by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg), that follows three parents who stumble upon their daughters’ pact to lose their virginity at prom. They then launch a covert one-night operation to stop the teens from sealing the deal. So cool, another movie that reinforces the double standard that women are held to when it comes to notions of “purity” and sex. Let’s hope the script — credited to five dudes (Brian Kehoe & Jim Kehoe, Jon Hurwitz & Hayden Schlossberg, Eben Russell) — has some seriously subversive stuff in there. Though, it doesn’t really seem like it….
Directed by Kay Cannon (“Pitch Perfect“), “Blockers” opens on April 6, 2018.
