Update: THR confirm Charlie Cox is your new “Daredevil.”
Even with Drew Goddard exiting “Daredevil” over the weekend, the show at Marvel goes on. After all, one person can’t stop a terraforming franchise monster, and the comic company shows no signs of slowing down their plans to dominate all media, and their next target? Netflix. With a handful of projects brewing for the streaming service, the most high-profile and first out of the gate will be “Daredevil” and a leading man may have been found.
According to Latino Review, Charlie Cox is lining up to put on the suit to play Matt Murdock. Wait, who? If you watched the second and third seasons of “Boardwalk Empire,” you might remember Cox as Nucky’s enforcer Owen Sleater. Or perhaps you’ll recall Cox as Tristan Thorne in “Stardust.” And at any rate, it’s the sort of unknown name that Marvel tends to be favoring for their small screen projects (see the entire cast of “Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.“) so if this pans out, we wouldn’t be entirely shocked.
As for whether or not Cox is right for the role, we have no idea. But with this iteration of the character said to be featuring in an “emotional,” “street-level noir” type of series, it does seem like they’re taking the superhero close to the page in the comics, which could give the actor some interesting notes and texture to play with, rather than something more conventional that a big screen version might serve up.
