During Bong Joon-ho’s recent acceptance speech for Best Foreign Film at this year’s Golden Globes, he made a plea to film fans that once you get past the subtitles on foreign-language productions, there’s a whole new world of incredible experiences you can have. Well, no matter what Bong says, there are many American film and TV watchers that just don’t like subtitles, and thus, that’s why we get so many remakes of those incredible films, including apparently, “Parasite.”
According to Deadline, HBO is in talks with CJ Entertainment, Bong, and award-winning filmmaker Adam McKay about a limited series based on the acclaimed “Parasite.” No word on what a limited series based on the award-winning film from 2019 will look like, but you can see how the structure of the plot can be expanded to series-length. But of course, whenever there’s news like this, the groans from cinephiles with international interests will follow.

So, let’s get it out of the way — No, we don’t need an American remake of “Parasite” as a limited series. But it appears like we’ll be getting one, so let’s hope for the best.
This isn’t the first time that reports surfaced about a remake of “Parasite.” Last summer, word got around that an American film based on Bong’s movie would be made. However, that was quickly squashed by the production company. And technically, that wasn’t a lie, as “Parasite” isn’t getting a movie remake, instead it’s getting the series treatment. You see, it’s different.
A “Parasite” TV series wouldn’t be the first Bong Joon-ho film to get brought to American TV screens. His film “Snowpiercer” has a long-awaited TV series coming to screens later this year. Clearly, the man makes films that studios love to remake in some capacity.

The inclusion of Adam McKay as a producer is also intriguing, considering he has a fairly great track record with HBO series, including “Succession.” He also has a new series based on the ‘80s Los Angeles Lakers that is going into production.
No word on when “Parasite” might go into production, but it’s being said that HBO beat out a ton of competition to land the project, including Netflix. So, it would appear that this is one of the hotter projects currently in development.
